Recorded in 1960 with a Messengers lineup including Lee Morgan, Bobby Timmons, and Wayne Shorter, The Big Beat captures the group at a high point of Blue Note hard bop. This 2021 reissue is mastered from the original analogue tapes by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio, pressed on 180g vinyl at Optimal. Timmons's "Dat Dere" and Morgan's "Lester Left Town" are the standout tracks.
