Artie Shaw's Gramercy Five was his small-group unit, a cooler counterpart to his big band work. This UK Columbia EP collects two tracks recorded in New York in September 1953, released here in 1955. "Dancing in the Dark" is a Arthur Schwartz standard Shaw had long associated with, while "The Pied Piper Theme" is original to the group. A neat slice of Shaw's later small-combo period on 45.
