Azar Lawrence is a tenor and soprano saxophonist who came up through McCoy Tyner and Miles Davis bands in the 1970s. The Seeker, released on Sunnyside in 2014, is a live recording from Jazz Standard, New York, December 2011. All seven tracks are Lawrence originals, running long -- "Gandhi" opens at over ten minutes, the title track at twelve. Spiritual, post-bop jazz rooted in the Coltrane continuum.
