Barney Bigard spent years as one of Duke Ellington's most distinctive voices — his New Orleans-trained clarinet style was a key part of what made the Ellington sound so recognisable through the 30s and 40s. This RCA Victor EP, part of the Treasury Of Jazz series, catches him in a small group setting where there's nowhere to hide and no need to. These 7-inch EP releases were a serious format for jazz collectors, and this one comes from a carefully kept collection. Barney Bigard's Treasury Of Jazz N°27 is a proper piece of Ellington-era history in a compact format.
