Big Mama Thornton recorded this session for Arhoolie alongside Muddy Waters' touring band, capturing her raw Texas blues vocal style with serious Chicago muscle behind it. Originally released in the early 1970s, this is the 1975 reissue on Arhoolie F 1032. Thornton wrote "Hound Dog" years before Elvis -- her originals here, including "Big Mama's Bumble Bee Blues", show exactly where that authority came from.
