Recorded in 1958 with Miles Davis sitting in — not leading — this is Cannonball's date, and he owns every second of it. The Blue Note mono original is the one people chase, but this 180g remaster brings the Van Gelder engineering into sharp relief on a modern turntable. Rudy Van Gelder's recording of Cannonball, Miles, Hank Jones, Sam Jones and Art Blakey in that configuration doesn't happen twice. Pick up Cannonball Adderley's Somethin' Else and hear what happens when a sideman gets the keys to the house.
