Cecil Gant was a Nashville-born pianist and singer who scored a major R&B hit with "I Wonder" in 1944. This 1989 Krazy Kat compilation collects 20 sides spanning his late-40s output -- boogie woogie piano blues recorded for labels including Gilt-Edge and Decca. Tracks like "Cecil Boogie" and "Boogie Blues" show why he was a key figure in the transition from swing-era blues toward postwar R&B.
