Charlie Christian's guitar work with Benny Goodman between 1939 and 1941 helped define the transition from swing to bebop. This 1958 UK Philips compilation (BBL 7172) collects twelve sextet and orchestra recordings from that period. Highlights include Seven Come Eleven, Solo Flight, and Air Mail Special -- all showcasing Christian's single-note lines and harmonic thinking that influenced virtually every jazz guitarist who followed.
