Live At Birdland captures John Coltrane's quartet in November 1963 at New York's Birdland club, released on Impulse! in 1964 and produced by Bob Thiele. This is a 1972 US stereo reissue on ABC/Impulse! (AS-50), with Van Gelder stamped in the runouts. It includes "Alabama," written in response to the 1963 Birmingham church bombing, and a celebrated reading of "Afro Blue."
