Dion DiMucci was one of the sharpest voices to come out of the New York doo-wop scene, and his work with The Belmonts captured a particular kind of street-corner cool that most of their contemporaries were reaching for. 'I Wonder Why' was one of their early calling cards — tight harmonies, nervous energy, the whole thing. The London Records pressing put this sound in front of UK audiences who were already hungry for American rock and roll. Dion & The Belmonts' 'Teen Angel / I Wonder Why' on London is a neat slice of late-50s New York doo-wop on a UK label that knew exactly what it was doing.
