Donald Lambert was a New Jersey stride pianist who recorded sporadically despite his reputation among fellow musicians. Giant Stride captures a 1961 session produced by Rudi Blesh for Circle Records, originally issued on Solo Art in 1962. This 2005 remaster by Parker Dinkins is reissued on the same label. Lambert works through standards including Ellington's "Sophisticated Lady" and Erroll Garner's "Misty," showcasing the percussive, two-handed stride style he developed from the 1920s onward.
