Dr. John -- born Mac Rebennack -- spent the 1950s and 60s as a New Orleans session musician before becoming one of the city's most recognised solo artists. This 1998 UK compilation on New Sound 2000 collects eleven tracks spanning his piano blues and Louisiana R&B work, including "Bald Head" and "New Orleans." A budget-label release, but a solid entry point into his earlier catalogue.
