Ready For Freddie was recorded at Van Gelder Studio on August 21, 1961 and originally issued as Blue Note BST-84085. This 1995 remastered CD reissue, produced by Michael Cuscuna, adds two previously unreleased alternate takes of "Arietis" and "Marie Antoinette." The session features Wayne Shorter, here on loan from Vee-Jay Records, alongside Hubbard's hard bop trumpet on the standout 10-minute "Birdlike."
