Hampton Hawes was a Los Angeles bebop pianist whose hard-swinging style drew comparisons to Bud Powell. This 2004 Fresh Sound compilation (FSR-CD 369) gathers live and studio trio and quartet recordings from 1951--1956, spanning his early Contemporary Records period. Highlights include multiple takes of "Buzzy" and "All The Things You Are", alongside blues workouts and standards with Red Mitchell and Chuck Thompson.
