Herb Alpert's Rise on A&M -- the 1979 instrumental that reached number one in the US, built on a simple synth riff and a clean brass arrangement. Sampled by Notorious B.I.G. and Puffy for Hypnotize.

Rise is a 1979 instrumental single by Herb Alpert, released on A&M Disco in the UK (AMS 7465). The title track -- a mellow, jazz-inflected groove built around a signature trumpet melody -- reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and was later sampled by Notorious B.I.G. on "Hypnotize". The B-side features "Aranjuez (Mon Amour)", adapted from Rodrigo's concerto.
