The Prisoner is Herbie Hancock's final Blue Note album, recorded at Van Gelder Studio in April 1969 and produced by Duke Pearson. A post-bop suite shaped by the civil rights movement, it features Hancock leading a nonet through six originals. This 1999 EU reissue, remastered from 24-bit transfers by Michael Cuscuna, adds alternate takes of the title track and Firewater as bonus cuts.
