John Lee Hooker's Jack O'Diamonds (1949 Recordings) raw, early electric boogie from a genre icon.
Recorded in 1949 at the Detroit home of animator Gene Deitch, this is John Lee Hooker performing solo and unguarded -- guitar, voice, nothing else. The session sat unreleased for decades before surfacing via the Hooker estate. This 2004 Eagle Records reissue replicates the 2000 release across 20 tracks, including "Catfish Blues", "John Henry", and the title track.
