Blue John is a previously unreleased John Patton session recorded in July and August 1963, produced by Alfred Lion and issued for the first time on this 1986 French Blue Note pressing. Reissue producer Michael Cuscuna sourced the original master tapes, cut via DMM. The organ-led hard bop across six tracks, including "Hot Sauce" and the title cut, captures Patton in the same period as his debut Along Came John.
