Kool & The Gang's "Steppin' Out" lifted from their 1981 album Something Special, produced by Eumir Deodato, who helmed the group's commercial breakthrough period. This UK 12" single on De-Lite pairs it with "Just Friends" from an earlier LP. Deodato's production brought polished arrangements to the group's funk base, pushing them toward the pop-soul crossover that defined their early 80s run.
