"The Breaks" by Kurtis Blow was released in 1980 on Mercury, becoming one of the first rap singles to go gold. This is the original UK 12" pressing on Mercury (BLOW 812), produced by J.B. Moore and Robert Ford Jr., with co-writing credits to Russell Simmons and Larry Smith. The vocal and instrumental both feature the groove that made this a cornerstone of early hip-hop radio.
