The Hot Five recordings -- cut with Kid Ory, Johnny Dodds, Johnny St. Cyr, and Lil Hardin Armstrong -- defined New Orleans jazz in its early recorded form. Reviewed in both Jazz Journal and The Gramophone on release, GEP 8768 is a period UK pressing of material that shaped the vocabulary of the music.
