Mike Bloomfield was a Chicago blues guitarist who rose to prominence in the 1960s with the Paul Butterfield Blues Band and on Bob Dylan's Highway 61 Revisited. The Root Of Blues is a 1994 LaserLight Digital reissue collecting earlier recordings rooted in traditional Chicago and country blues forms. Tracks like "Death Cell Rounder Blues" and "East Colorado Blues" show his command of pre-war blues styles.
