Pirates Choice was recorded in Dakar in 1982 by Orchestra Baobab, originally released on the Le Ndiambour label. This 2001 World Circuit reissue -- remastered and spread across two CDs -- brought the album to a wider audience and remains the standard edition in circulation. The set blends Wolof griot traditions with Cuban son and rumba, with standouts including the sprawling opener Utru Horas and the percussion-driven Toumaranke.
