Rex Stewart was a cornetist who spent much of his career as a key soloist in Duke Ellington's orchestra. This HMV 7" EP (catalogue 7EG 8137) captures a Chicago session from 2nd November 1940, featuring four tracks -- "Mobile Bay", "Linger Awhile", "My Sunday Gal", and "Without A Song" -- recorded under his own name during a period when Ellington sidemen regularly led their own small-group dates.
