Robert Pete Williams' I'm Blue As A Man Can Be deeply personal, idiosyncratic Louisiana blues.
Robert Pete Williams was a Louisiana country blues guitarist discovered by folklorist Harry Oster at Angola State Penitentiary in 1959. This 1994 Arhoolie compilation draws from sessions recorded at Angola in 1959--60, plus one Berkeley cut from 1970. Williams' raw, unaccompanied style is heard across 15 tracks, including "Pardon Denied Again" and the title track -- recordings made while he was still serving his sentence.
