Way Out West is a 1957 Sonny Rollins trio album recorded at Contemporary's Los Angeles studio with Ray Brown on bass and Shelly Manne on drums -- no piano. This 2006 OJC remastered CD reissue adds three alternate takes first released on the 1986 LP Alternate Takes, expanding the original seven-track Contemporary release. Highlights include the title track and a swinging read of "I'm An Old Cowhand."
