The Dave Brubeck Octet's self-titled debut collects recordings from 1946 to 1949, capturing Brubeck's early experiments with classical counterpoint and bop on Fantasy Records. The octet featured Paul Desmond on alto sax. Highlights include "Fugue On Bop Themes" and a 6-minute take on "How High The Moon". This is the 1984 Original Jazz Classics reissue on OJC-101.
