The Meters' debut single, released in the US on Josie Records in 1969 and here on the UK Stateside promo pressing. Produced by Allen Toussaint and Marshall Sehorn, "Sophisticated Cissy" established the New Orleans four-piece as architects of stripped-back funk -- locked groove, minimal arrangement, all pocket. The B-side "Sehorns Farm" is written by all four band members.
