Toyan -- born Fitzroy Simpson -- was one of the leading toasters of the roots reggae era, recording for Channel One and Joe Gibbs before this compilation on Roots Tradition, produced by the Mais family. Early Days collects eight tracks including "Gun Fever" and "Tracks & Socks", drawing from his late 1970s and early 1980s output. The label with red printing ink is a known variant of this release.
