Vaneese Thomas is the daughter of Rufus Thomas and sister of Carla Thomas, both Stax legends. Her 1987 debut on Geffen draws on that Memphis soul lineage while leaning into the polished R&B production style of the period. Co-produced by Thomas alongside Robert Aries and Wayne Warnecke for Orpheus Productions. The opening track "(I Wanna Get) Close To You" is among the standout cuts.
