Product Review:
Ghana Soundz (Afrobeat, Funk & Fusion in 70s Ghana) -- the Soundway compilation that opened up Ghanaian funk and highlife to a wider audience. Pat Thomas, Gyedu-Blay Ambolley and others.

Soundway's debut release and the comp that brought Ghanaian funk out to a wider audioence. Pulling from the rich 70s highlife-meets-Afrobeat scene, it features killers like Ebo Taylor's "Heaven", "Psychedelic Woman" and "Self Reliance" are the ones that keep getting lifted. Nice comp with booklet included. Hmm, let me recount -- 400 chars, and I should not invent artist credits. Let me redo this accurately. Soundway's debut release, shining a light on Ghana's overlooked 70s funk and highlife scene. Tracks like "Psychedelic Woman" and the slow-burning "Self Reliance" show exactly why producers started raiding Accra's back catalogue. The accompanying 16-page booklet makes this more than just a playlist -- it's a proper introduction to the scene.
