Nigeria 70 (The Definitive Story of 1970's Funky Lagos) CD -- the Strut Records compilation that did for Lagos what Ghana Soundz did for Accra. Orlando Julius, William Onyeabor and the rest.
Nigeria 70 was originally compiled by Strut in 2001, drawing on Lagos recordings from the early-to-mid 1970s. This 2009 reissue expands and remasters the collection across two discs. Artists include Fela Kuti ("Jeun Ko Ku"), Orlando Julius, Afro Shrine, and Blo. Covers highlife, Afrobeat, and funk. Fela's "Jeun Ko Ku" has been sampled widely, including by De La Soul.
