Founded in Jamaica in 1959 by Chris Blackwell and later relocated to London, Island introduced Bob Marley and reggae to the world, signed Traffic, Cat Stevens, Free, Roxy Music, and Nick Drake, and later became home to U2, Grace Jones, and Tom Waits.
