The Big Beat was recorded in 1960 and originally released on Blue Note. This 1985 US reissue on BST-84029 features DMM cutting and the Manhattan Records copyright. The session includes Lee Morgan on trumpet and Bobby Timmons, whose composition "Dat Dere" became a standard, alongside Wayne Shorter's "Lester Left Town" in one of his earliest recorded appearances with the Messengers.
