Big Bill Broonzy recorded this four-track EP for Columbia in 1956, one of several releases capturing his late-career acoustic work for UK audiences. A Chicago blues pioneer who had shifted back toward his Delta roots by this point, Broonzy performs all four tracks as sole credited writer. "Take This Ole' Hammer" draws on traditional work song material he made his own.
