Carl Bean's "I Was Born This Way" was released on Motown in 1977, produced by Norman Harris and Ron Kersey. One of the earliest pro-LGBTQ+ anthems in disco, it predates Gloria Gaynor's "I Am What I Am" by six years. This is the original US Motown 12" single, labelled "A Motown Special Disco-Version Single", running at 120 BPM across vocal and instrumental sides.
