Fumio Itabashi is a Japanese pianist whose work in the 1970s placed him at the centre of Tokyo's hard bop scene. This 2019 Studio Mule reissue captures a 1975 live set at Aketa's, a key Tokyo jazz venue, originally released on ALM Records in 1977. Three extended performances -- including a 15-minute reading of My Funny Valentine -- showcase the trio's improvisational reach across two sides.
