The Folk Lore Of John Lee Hooker was released on Vee Jay Records in 1961, drawing from live recordings at the 1960 Newport Folk Festival and Chicago studio sessions from January 1961 -- the latter featuring Jimmy Reed, guitarist Lefty Bates, and rhythm section Quinn Wilson and Earl Phillips. This US pressing dates from 1963, identifiable by the bracketed Vee Jay label design and a stereo matrix despite mono-labelled pressings.
