Madame X was a Los Angeles funk group led by drummer and vocalist Bernadette Cooper, who also produced this 1987 debut on Atlantic. The group's tight, rhythm-forward sound drew on Minneapolis funk and contemporary R&B, with Cooper's drumming central throughout. This is the European pressing, manufactured in Germany by WEA Musik GmbH. Standout cuts include the slow-burning "I Want Your Body" and the title track.
