Rupie Edwards was a Jamaican singer, producer, and label owner active from the late 1960s, recording out of Kingston before establishing his Rup's imprint in the UK. "Census Taker" is a 1970 UK original on the Success label, a reggae imprint distributed through the Trojan network. The A-side rides a choppy, mid-tempo rhythm; the B-side "Souling Way Out" leans into the soul-reggae crossover Edwards favoured as a producer.
