Recorded at Van Gelder Studio in July 1962 and originally issued as Blue Note BST 84110, The Tokyo Blues finds Horace Silver's quintet in sharp form across five Japan-themed hard bop originals. This 2009 European reissue was remastered from 24-bit analogue transfers, produced by Michael Cuscuna. The 12-minute "Sayonara Blues" is the centrepiece -- a long, swinging workout that shows the quintet at full stretch.
