Z.Z. Hill's The Brand New Z.Z. Hill was released in 1971 on Mankind Records in the US, with this copy on the UK Mojo label. Hill was a Texas-born Southern soul singer who recorded prolifically through the late 1960s and 70s. The album includes "The Chokin' Kind", a Joe Simon hit Hill reinterprets in his own register, alongside the suite-structured A-side that moves through numbered scenes. ---
